WTF Moment: Henry Cavill - How to Kill a 20+ Year Reputation in Mere Months

HOLY SHIT, they should teach classes to potential PR agents, actors/actresses, or anyone who incorporates public relations into their promoting their career or public image. I have never seen such a circus play out like the one I have with Henry Cavill. I have been a fan of his since I first watched him on The Tudors, and he has been one of a very few celebrities I had admired and enjoyed watching in my movies and television shows. The image he portrayed for himself was what really caught my eye. He seems so down to earth, not snobbish or extravagant like so many celebrities seem to be. He spoke so fondly of his family and his wanting to have one of his own one day. That's what won over my respect and admiration.

But then the famous announcement of a new girlfriend via a picture of them playing chess was posted on his Instagram. And the firestorm went aflame. Curious fans began to look into Natalie's past, and uncovered that she had been on a reality television show at 16, where she bragged about bullying other kids and how much she loved money. Then came the rumors that her father had run sex clubs where she at one point wanted to take over and run as a career. This baffled fans, as the image this girl has portrayed was nothing like the image of the ideal woman Henry had claimed to have wanted numerous times in past interviews.

Some fans began to really dig deep and deconstruct what was happening before everyone's eyes. Instagram profiles popped up, analyzing the photos posted of Henry and his girl: the walk in the park, the chess photo, solo pictures of Natalie walking Kal. Things weren't adding up in many fans' minds. Did Henry break the U.K. Covid-19 lockdown protocol in place to fly his girlfriend over? This was a hot topic among many, as they were angry of the possibility, while millions of people couldn't visit their loved ones, many died alone because visitors were barred in hospitals and hospices, and so many had lost their livelihood in the closing of their personal businesses because they could no longer afford to stay open during lockdown. Not a good look for Henry Cavill. Definitely not a good look for his new girlfriend. (Update 9/10/21: A good friend of mine recently lost her father to COVID after a short battle. Seeing someone close have to deal with the sudden loss (diagnosis to death was a week), and knowing what it's like to lose a parent, it makes the possibility of them breaking COVID protocol to fly Natalie over to the UK for pics or a $%$# even more infuriating. SHE WAS LUCKY SHE COULD SEE HIM AND SAY GOODBYE. MANY FAMILIES WEREN'T THAT LUCKY!)

The photoshopped pictures. This was another hot topic for fans. They analyzed them, deconstructed them, noted the various ways the pictures of Henry and Natalie were manipulated to show they were together. To many, this was blatant deceitful, and they felt insulted that they were meant to buy the show playing out before them. It's not something I can blame them for, we were being played for fools.

I think a tipping point for many Cavill fans was the gaslighting post he supposedly had wrote and posted on his Instagram page with a HORRIFICALLY photoshopped image of him and his "girlfriend." Yes, this picture was very obvious. (FYI, the background should always be level no matter how you tilt the camera, unless it was altered in an editing program like, oh yeah, Photoshop) But the words said that were more hurtful. Many interpreted that he basically said "fuck off" to fans and, many did.

More postings followed, Henry riding in a fancy private jet over to the U.S. because he was "one of the lucky few" to get permission to do so during the pandemic. Then there were sightings of him and his lady in Florida, with the lady in question facing away from the camera (how convenient) and whose body type didn't fit Natalie's. A body double, perhaps? Who really cares at this point, the whole "relationship" had become a shit show and fans knew it.

And now, it seems that even those in Hollywood are joining in on calling out the seemingly PR relationship. (Yes, I think it's fake. I've never seen a team try so hard to make people believe it's real. Fake pictures, conveniently posted after various fan pages question something, seemingly to answer to them.) Below are examples of the kind of things that are circulating...it's truly sad what has become of Henry Cavill's image, an image he spend 20+ years building. When I read them, I see fans who are truly hurt, who believed the image that was sold to them over the years. (THOUGH THERE ARE SOME OUT THERE THAT CROSS THE LINE INTO BULLYING. THIS IS NOT OKAY, NO MATTER HOW HURT ONE IS). Only for everything they believed to be torn down before their eyes. I have such empathy for them. I, too have had my heart broken over this...whatever this is.

But perhaps it's time to close the book on Henry Cavill. For so many now heart-broken fans, our Superman is figuratively...dead.
